Previous revisions | Privacy Policy on the project's website
Welcome to ben9. As an open-source project, absolute transparency, user privacy, and total anonymity are our top priorities. We believe your learning data is yours alone.
This policy outlines exactly how our application handles your data.
1. Camera functionality (Strictly local)
Certain features in ben9 may request access to your device's camera.
- Zero server transmission: All camera data and processing occur strictly locally on your device.
- No storage: We do not record, transmit, or store any camera feeds or images on our servers.
2. Flashcard deck sharing (Ephemeral RAM storage/permanent and public deck store)
When you choose to use the private deck-sharing functionality, your flashcard data is temporarily routed through our servers to facilitate the transfer.
- In-memory storage only: Shared decks are stored exclusively in RAM (volatile memory). They are never written to a persistent hard drive or database.
- 7-day maximum: If a shared deck is not retrieved, it will be permanently purged from RAM after a maximum of 7 days (as soon as someone requests/retrieves it).
When you choose to use the public deck-sharing functionality, your flashcard data is permanently stored on the server for everyone to see.
- Removal rights: Your app remembers which decks were uploaded by you and the password required to remove it. So long as you do not remove/reinstall the application, you retain the right to remove your decks.
- Content decency: Your content may be removed by moderation staff if we deem it inappropriate for all audiences (including minors).
For more technical information, please refer to the ben9-server repository.
3. Total anonymity and zero tracking
We do not want your personal data. To ensure your complete anonymity:
- No identifying logs: We do not collect, log, or store IP addresses.
- No device data: We do not track User-Agent strings, device identifiers, or analytics.
- No accounts required: You are not required to provide an email, name, or any personal information to use ben9.
4. Open source transparency
Because ben9 is open-source, you don't just have to take our word for it. Anyone is welcome to inspect, audit, and verify our codebase to ensure these privacy standards are strictly upheld.
If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please reach out via our Gitea repository: https://gitea.7o7.cx/PamTeam/ben9, or contact one of the maintainers directly at ben9-inquiries@ktty.is.
